C&K Paving builds future leaders through 2025 summer internship program

C&K Paving announces the launch of its 2025 Project Manager Summer Internship/Co-Op Program, offering hands-on training for students and aspiring professionals interested in construction management. Taking place during the summer months across various project sites nationwide, the program is designed to prepare the next generation of industry leaders by immersing them in real-world paving operations and project management.

C&K Paving’s 2025 Project Manager Summer Internship/Co-Op Program offers aspiring construction professionals real-world experience in commercial paving. From site visits to project planning, interns work directly with project managers and gain valuable skills in asphalt and concrete operations. This nationwide program runs from May to early August and serves as a pipeline for future hires.

C&K Paving’s internship program has evolved steadily over the years, thanks to growing interest and leadership involvement. In 2025, the program has expanded to include four to five internship positions, reflecting the company’s commitment.

Key leaders behind this initiative include Brandon Rurik, Senior Project Manager, and Travis Feitshans, Director of Program Management. Working alongside the senior leadership team, they’ve helped shape a collaborative model that offers meaningful opportunities to those entering the construction field.

The internship is open to more than just college students. Candidates from trade schools, technical degree programs and those simply interested in construction are all welcome. Common fields of study include Construction Management, Project Management, Civil Engineering and Technical Resource Management. While most applicants find their way to the program through referrals, C&K Paving is also increasing visibility through marketing efforts and word-of-mouth outreach.

The power of internships

Interns are paired with full-time project managers and spend their summer immersed in real-world paving operations. They assist with daily responsibilities like project planning and daily reporting. They learn the capabilities of paving equipment and project documentation tools, and get the opportunity to attend site visits, engaging with clients. As the summer progresses, interns gain project management skills, confidence and the knowledge to potentially manage smaller projects themselves—making the most of this hands-on experience.

The program also serves as a valuable pipeline for future hires. Interns gain exposure to different aspects of the construction industry, helping them identify their strengths and preferred roles. Designed to accommodate academic schedules, the internship typically runs from May to early August. C&K Paving encourages interested candidates to apply on their website and take their first step toward a fulfilling career in commercial paving and project management.

“The great thing about our internship program is how much we let them do,” says Brandon Rurik, Senior Project Manager, C&K Paving Contractors. “They are really right there, working hand-in-hand with our full-time project managers. During the course of one summer, they can go from feeling uncomfortable with little to no onsite knowledge, to soaking in an abundance of knowledge and confidence through their experience here.”
